Licence Application Guidance
Application packages get rejected or delayed for reasons that were foreseeable — an incomplete UBO chain, a source-of-funds gap, a policy document that doesn't match the operating model described elsewhere in the file.
We support operators through the application process for a gambling licence in the jurisdiction they've chosen, working from an honest assessment of what the file needs before it reaches a regulator's desk.
This is guidance and preparation, not the licence itself — licences are issued exclusively by the competent regulator (for example the Curaçao Gaming Authority in Curaçao). Our role is to reduce the chance of rejection or prolonged queries, not to promise an outcome no advisor can guarantee.
What we do
- Pre-application risk assessment against the specific regulator's current requirements
- Structuring and reviewing the corporate and UBO chain for transparency gaps
- Drafting and reviewing policy documentation (AML/CFT, responsible gambling, data protection) required for submission
- Coordinating source-of-funds and source-of-wealth documentation with the operator's finance function
- Liaising with the regulator on queries raised during review, where the operator authorises us to do so
- Tracking the application through to decision and advising on next steps if further information is requested
Who this is for
- Operators applying for a first gambling licence in a new jurisdiction
- Founders and COOs who have tried a template-based licence broker and hit unexplained delays
- Groups restructuring ownership ahead of a renewal or re-application
Relevant for these jurisdictions
Jurisdiction
United Kingdom
The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) operates one of the most demanding licensing regimes in the sector, combining a strict fit-and-proper test with an active enforcement record — a UK licence signals credibility, but it is also the jurisdiction where preparation gaps are least forgiven.
Jurisdiction
Malta
Malta remains one of the most established EU-based licensing jurisdictions for iGaming, with a single-licence structure covering both B2C and B2B activity through the Malta Gaming Authority — but its reputation for maturity comes with a correspondingly thorough fit-and-proper and AML review.
Jurisdiction
Curaçao
Curaçao replaced its long-standing master licence system with the Landsverordening Openbare Kansspelen (LOK) on 24 December 2024, moving licensing authority to a single regulator and materially raising the documentation bar for new and existing operators alike.
